After rain, rain and more rain the sun shone for the day at Chatsworth House on our pre-Christmas outing. Festive stalls in the grounds provided unique gifts, warming snacks and drinks in the chilly weather. The atmosphere was enhanced by live musicians and singers, who could be heard all around the fayre. After lunch a tour of the house itself enchanted everyone before the ladies set off to Matlock for the traditional Long Marston Ladies cream tea.

Razzle dazzle was the dress code for our Christmas party held in the village hall, and the ladies certainly didn't disappoint with lots of sparkle. On the stage was an enchanted forest decorated with twinkling lights. Centre stage was a leg (a prop for stockings) adorned with lights and baubles which brought lots of laughter because it made an appearance at a chair yoga performance earlier in the year.

We were all seated for an amazing three course meal of traditional fayre expertly cooked by Isobel Slatter and served piping hot by her team of ladies, all of which was kept secret and not revealed until the night. Between courses prizes were awarded to the ladies who had a miniature Christmas tree on their wine glass, a parcel sticker under a side plate and a button taped under their chair.

A special raffle was held with prizes of vouchers for the Golden Cross at Ardens Grafton, Marchfont Turkeys, a cut and blow dry at Matthew Curtis Hair Design, tickets for Marston Movies, a scarf from Coco Ivy and free annual membership for Long Marston Ladies 2020.

The evening continued with Barry Styles, a singer, who gave renditions of dance classics, which had almost everyone on their feet. Angela and Sheila were presented with garden vouchers from the ladies in appreciation for running the group.

Long Marston Ladies re-start again on 5th February with "The Dutch Barn Farm Shop", when membership renewals from existing members and new ladies wishing to join this fun loving group will be taken.
